CES Surprises

What do Reese’s peanut butter cups and CES have in common? Well, I wouldn’t have thought anything either, but there they were in a big, bright, orange, happy booth unveiling their new product with the same fanfare as a new gadget:  ”Reese’s Minis – the next big little thing..tiny, portable & unwrapped,” as they say, “perfect for on-the-go (and e-tasks like texting, surfing the web, etc.)” Delicious, I say. And great marketing.

Continuing on…I ran into some…well take a look…

And you just never know when you’re going to run into some show girls.  This is Vegas after all:

But back to technology.  I haven’t even scratched the surface yet but here’s something cool.  Not your grandmother’s, or even your mother’s sewing machine, this one is from Brother and does a lot more than you learned in home economics.
And I have some nieces who would love these HeadPhonies.
I did see my favorite session this afternoon…The Next Big Thing.  Their focus this year? After the Computer…
The talk centered of course around SmartPhones, Tablets and Connected TV.  May I digress for a moment?  David Pogue, who was on this panel, by the way, once did a column on what we should be calling the current crop of smart phones and he came up with “app phones.”  Smart, I think.  (forgive the pun)  I actually saw, in the CES Innovation section today, several cool “phones” and they were all called “wireless handsets.”  Really?  That’s what we’re calling a phone now?  A wireless handset?
But back to David Pogue…he shook up the room stressing that PCs aren’t going anywhere and also redirected the discussion to rights and licensing and how that is getting in the way of providing content as broadly as possible.  That sparked quite a discussion.  He thinks there’s got to be a simper way to figure it out.  I agree.
Ok, more tomorrow.
Ciao
